Half-term Spellings

I will not be setting new spellings for the holiday but feel free to look back and practise any that you found tricky! Keeping a diary is a great way of working on your writing, even if you just write a line or two a day.
Happy holidays! Miss Pinches

Tuesday 20th October 2020

Today we have combined our English and Music lessons to compose and perform our own version of ‘London’s Burning’. The children really impressed me and the performance was outstanding. Next stop, the Albert Hall!

In Art this week, we have looked at the work of Joan Miro.

Keep going everyone, you are doing really well!

Coming up this week!

In English, we will be using different versions of the rhymes ‘London’s Burning’ and ‘Row your boat’ to explore rhythms and repetition in poetry. We will rehearse and perform rhymes using percussion instruments and will also have fun writing our own rounds.

In Maths, we will work on recognising and using the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction. We will subtract numbers using the facts we already know to help us e.g. I know that 7-4 = 3 so 77- 4 must be 73.

In History, we will learn about code breaking during WW2. We will also learn about the Secret Agent Noor Inayat Khan. Thought to be Britain’s first Muslim war heroine in Europe, she was one of only 3 women to be awarded the George Cross during WW2.

Also this week, P.E on Wednesday plus Art, Computing, Science and lots more!

Advance Warning: After half term, P.E will be on Mondays and Fridays.

In Maths, we will explore adding two-digit numbers and using the formal written method for addition (adding the ones and tens in columns).

In Science, Year 2 will learn about healthy eating while Year 3 will focus on digestion.

Also this week: Harvest inspired art and craft, work on our model aeroplanes, music inspired by the season and lots more! Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. Miss Pinches

Weekly Update

This week in English, we are completing our unit on information texts. The children have been busy planning some writing about their own imaginary creature and today we have worked on turning our notes into sentences. Tomorrow, we will begin writing our reports using the structure that we used last week.

In R.E yesterday, we listened to ‘What a wonderful world’ sung by Louis Armstrong while we watched some beautiful footage by David Attenborough. We were then inspired by the work of Sir David and that of Greta Thunberg when we expressed our ideas for helping the planet.

In maths this week, we are adding and subtracting tens and for Year 3, hundreds. We are also using our knowledge of number lines to 10 and 20 to help us to estimate the position of multiples of ten on number lines to 100.

In Art today, we have learnt about the African-American artist Alma Thomas and have produced our own paintings using similar techniques.

A quick note about Times Table Rock Stars: This program tests the children up to 12x the number and also includes the related division facts so some children may find this a bit challenging at the moment. BBC Super Movers has some nice resources for helping the children learn their tables and times tables.me.uk has online and printable resources too.
We are having a lovely week so far, can’t believe it’s already Tuesday!

Feel free to email me if you have any questions or I can be of any assistance.
