Junk Modelling

Next week as part of our learning based around the story “Lost in the Toy Museum”, the children will be invited to make toys using junk modelling as one of our continuous provision activities. We would be very grateful of any recycling you may have that the children could use to build their creations.
Thank you!

We are delighted that the Reception and Year 1 children’s photograph featured as part of the Shropshire Star’s ‘School Class Photo’ supplement as promised on Wednesday 9th November 2022.

Well done Reception and Year 1. You all look very smart in your school uniform.

White Rose 1 Minute Maths

White Rose Maths have launched an app called ‘1 minute maths’. We follow White Rose Maths as a school, so it fits in superbly and will look very familiar to the children. The app gives children quick 1 minute challenges for addition, subtraction and subitising (recognising a quantity without needing to count). If you are able to, please download the app and let them have a go. This is an app to enjoy at your leisure with your child to support their learning journey.

As part of your child’s account, you have access to a ‘Parent Portal’. Details of how to set up your account will be listed below. In Reception and Year 1, the sections which will be most relevant to you are:

“Work

Any work that a teacher has commented on will appear here as well as any work that a child has wished to share with their parent.”

“Access Pupil View

Parents are able to see a Pupil View of Purple Mash, this is particularly helpful if a parent wishes to work with their child on a task or in the unfortunate event that a child has temporarily misplaced their login card. Parents will be prompted with a password screen which will ask for their Parent Portal password they would have created at registration.”

Details of how to set up your ‘Parent Portal’ account can be found in the document below.

Spelling Strategies

Thank you for the ongoing support you have been giving to your children with their weekly spellings. Children in Year 1 will continue to be given their new weekly spellings every Friday for their spelling test on the following Friday, giving the children one full week to learn and practise their spellings. These will be sent home and posted on the school website.

As you know, just like adults, children have their own unique way of learning. This is something that we actively encourage and support. Here are few ideas to help your child learn their new set of spellings each week. Please select the method that best supports your child’s learning style. You will also find a laminated copy of this in your child’s book bag.

Harvest Vegetable Soup

The Year One children have been busy in English creating a list of ingredients that they would like to include in their very own harvest vegetable soup. The children chose pumpkin, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and sweet potato. On Thursday 6th October, all of the children in Green Class will be busy grating, chopping and preparing their chosen vegetables to create their harvest vegetable soup. The children will be welcome to taste their soup, if they wish. If you know of any new or suspected allergies or do not wish for your child to take part, please could you let a member of staff know.
