Access to Home Learning for those self Isolating

For any children isolating this week having tested positive for Covid, we will continue to set home learning in the Homework section of the website. The password for this remains Blue22.

This is for those who are positive but not feeling very poorly.  Try at least to watch the videos for both maths and English.

Home Learning if self Isolating but well

There are maths and English videos and resources on the Blue class room section of the website for Monday and Tuesday if children need to learn at home because they are self isolating. I have put these on just in case as it can be difficult to send resources once the school day is underway.

Use the password Blue22.

Generally, we assume children who are off sick need to rest and will not be learning. However, this is not always the case with COVID 19. Please do let us know if your children are well and needing to learn at home. We have been fortunate, compared to some schools, that we have had few children at home and needing to learn at home whilst their peers are in school.

If you are unwell, please do not worry as you are not expected to complete learning if you are poorly.

Microsoft log ins

We will be completing a unit of work on collaborative learning this term in Computing.  We have started by using Purple Mash but need to use Microsoft Office 365 next week. For this we need the individual Microsoft office log ins which we provided last year.  The children have been asked to check at home whether they still have a record of their school email and password. We know some families prefer to keep such records for their children, so they come to you and ask.

I would like to see if we can get most of the class logged in from existing emails and passwords. Some of these are different from those which were initially given when they were set up as Microsoft allows (and often prompts) users to reset their passwords.

Don’t worry if you can’t find it – I can reset them if necessary and I know it is a while since the children logged into Teams.

accident
actually
although
believe
bicycle

Try to recall some of the different ways to learn these eg  pyramid words, segmenting and writing in different colours or “writing without vowels” ( eg b_l__v_ you then add the correct vowels in the gaps)

LO: to investigate and spell words with common root words
This week we are looking at the roots “micro” (Greek root meaning—small) and “graph” (Greek root meaning – to write). Knowing the meanings of roots helps us to understand
unfamiliar words as well as spell them.
How many other words with these roots can you think of?

microscopic
microbe
microscope
microwave
microphone
microbiologist
autograph
graphics
biography
grapheme
graffiti

LO: to spell words which are hyphenated
co-operate
co-exist
co-own
co-star
re-invent
re-enter
re-write
re-tell
re-emerge
re-ignite
re-heat
These are examples where the hyphen is used to avoid combining letters and sounds which could be awkward to say or write without a hyphen or to clarify the meaning.
Can you find other words which use a
hyphen in this way?

Spellings w/c 22nd November

This week we are revising the use of contractions in spelling. Please remember to think about other words which use these rules. Spellings should not just be about a list of 8 to 12 words. It would be impossible to learn to spell every word that way!

didn’t
can’t
hadn’t
wouldn’t
shouldn’t
couldn’t
won’t
I’ll
shan’t
we’ll

Science

This half term Year 5 and Year 6 are learning all about the circulatory system in humans. We have begun to find out about the heart and lungs. Today, we carried out some investigations and demonstrations about osmosis and diffusion.
