Blue Maths Homework

Year 5

You have been allocated tasks on Classroom Secrets. You will find an Arithmetic Test and some slides and games about metric units of measure. Please DO NOT attempt to do all the arithmetic in your head! You should use a paper and pencil to do your calculations then type the answers in the box provided. They are all calculations which we have covered in our year 5 learning.

Year 6

Mrs Bernasconi’s Booster group – please complete CGP pages  55    and 56  about units of measure.

Mrs Benson’s Booster group  – you will be told your CGP pages during your Friday morning booster session.

Times tables – please keep practising these. You need to gain and keep the INSTANT recall of ALL your multiplication and DIVISION to support you in your other learning.

Maths Homework

Year 5 have been set some tasks on Classroom Secrets Kids. These revise finding fractions of amounts. This is something we did a few weeks ago – research shows that it important to recall previous learning in order for it to stick in our memories. It was great to see that homework had been completed well this week. Well done Year 5.

Children who are finding that they are a little rusty at some of their halving and doubling skills might like to use these fun games on Hit the Button. The web version of this is completely free and lots of fun.

Year 6 have been set pages from their CPG books again this week and should bring these to their booster groups as usual. The Monday group have been given p 37,38 and 39.

Year 5 and Year 6 will be looking at measure and learning how to convert units of measure next week. This will utilise and revise the decimal skills the class have been building over the last few weeks. It would be useful for the children to look at the packaging of the food and drinks in your fridge and cupboards at home to get an remind themselves of the units of measure used and how much things weigh and how much various containers hold.

Maths homework

Year 5 have been allocated tasks on Classroom Secrets Kids.

These relate to the decimal, percentages and the FDP (fraction decimal, percentage) equivalence learning which has been taking place in class this week.

Year 6 have been given pages from CGP books during booster groups again.

The Monday Year 6 booster group have been asked to complete pages 6,7 and 8 (Decimals, Rounding and Mixed Practice).

Homework Year 5 – Maths

Maths homework for Year 5 has been set again on Classroom Secrets Kids.

Well done to all those children that have completed or attempted all their tasks again this week.

Homework it intended to support, rehearse and give opportunities to recall learning that has taken place in class that week. It was disappointing to see that several children have not attempted the tasks.

Please let me know if you are struggling with your homework – we can help if you are stuck. I am happy to allow children to complete tasks in a lunchtime club if internet access is a problem.

Update and reading

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! We hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and would like to thank you for our generous gift vouchers which are much appreciated.

The  children have come back to school happy and  enthusiastic to learn. It looks like we have put most of the sickness of last term behind us. Our topics this half term are Our Local Area of Ironbridge in history; Bridges in DT; What it is like to be a Muslim in Britain in RE ; and Materials in science. Maths booster classes are starting next week for our year six children.

There is no homework this week as the children only came back on Wednesday. However, we would like to remind you that reading for approximately 20 minutes per evening is a daily homework task for year 5/6. We really value reading at Claverley: the children enjoy being read to in class each day and we like recommending books to each other. Although children do have opportunities to read  to themselves in Blue class, our focus tends to be on comprehension and analysing texts in guided reading . Whilst some of our children in Blue are avid readers, other children are not reading regularly. We have decided to re-introduce the reading diary which should be signed off by parents weekly. We know our more confident readers enjoy reading to themselves but please ask them about the book they are reading or ask them to read aloud to you sometimes. Children who are struggling to read at home may enjoy sharing a book – reading a page / chapter each.

Thank you for your support.
