Haka

In dance, Blue Class have enjoyed learning about the background of the Haka and then performing their own routines. They have worked in groups to create their own version of the Haka, looking fierce like warriors at all times!

Blue Class Login details

Several of the children seem to have lost one or more sets of logins details for the Home learning websites. The children should bring home today (Monday 16th Nov) a one sheet summary of their login details for the websites we are using for home learning and remote learning.

The children have glued  on the details for Classroom Secrets Kids, Purple Mash and TTRS/ Numbots. It might be a good idea for them to add their Teams information too. The Microsoft Teams details were shared with parents in a letter just before half term.

We are trying to help them to learn to be organised, so again we have discussed the importance of keeping these safe and also shared ideas on where they might keep them at home so that they do not get lost. The children had lots of great ideas and many of our children had already gathered and put their details somewhere safe that they could find them easily – well done! Quite a few have also been regularly accessing Purple Mash and Classroom Secrets Kids for, many weeks – well done what a great learning attitude!

Learning w/c 16.11.20

This week in school is test week. This is NOTHING for your children to be worried about and is merely for our own information so we can see where the children are and where we need to focus our teaching.

As we are carrying out tests, there will be less  maths and English than usual. However we will be looking at comparing and ordering fractions in maths. We will start to focus on reports in English which will link to our work on biomes in Geography.  We will also be looking at how to use a  semi- colon and apostrophes in our writing.

If you are Remote Learning this week, please do not worry about the tests – we can catch up with assessment for individuals when they are able to return and focus their learning to support. Please look at learning assigned on Classroom Secrets Kids and Purple Mash plus watch the Home learning videos on WhiteRose to keep learning at home. Time spent on TimeTable Rock Stars and Numbots is never wasted!

It is also anti- bullying week so this will be our focus throughout the week in PSHE. On Wednesday children need to wear odd socks to celebrate our individuality. We will  be starting our sex education towards the end of the week which will focus on how the body changes when we are going through puberty.

This weekend I have been marking some fabulous alternative story ends to the Highwayman. The children in our class are all keen to embrace their new learning; we are so proud of them  and how they are progressing in spite of the school closure earlier this year. School life is very different as the children are unable to mix with other year groups which is one of the pluses of being at a small village school. However, it’s lovely to watch the class playing so nicely together at break times.

Please can you save any shoe boxes as the children are going to be making a biome in a box in Art/DT at  the end of the  week commencing the 23.11. 20.

Many thanks

Mrs Benson and Mrs Bernasconi

Anti-Bullying Week – 16th – 20th November

The theme for Anti-Bullying Week 2020 is: United Against Bullying. Anti-Bullying Week will happen from Monday 16th – Friday 20th November and it will be the focus in school.

Odd Socks Day

We are going to ask the children to come to school in odd socks on Wednesday 18th November this year. Odd Socks Day is designed to be fun! It’s an opportunity to encourage people to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique!

Remembrance Service by Garry

Sadly, Garry has not been able to join us in person to deliver his Remembrance Service but we are pleased that he has provided us with his virtual worship.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Responsibility

Our value for this half-term is Responsibility.

The Bible teaches that life is a gift from God and it is our responsibility to use our talents and abilities in the best way we can.

RESPONSIBILITY

In school this may be shown as: making good decisions about our own behaviour, taking responsibility for our learning, being independent and caring for others. Responsibility also includes thinking about being a good citizen and caring for our environment.

We have started off by thinking about how we can take responsibility for what we say. A follower of Jesus, called James, wrote to some people who were members of the church. He said that the tongue was like a tiny spark that could spread. We reminded ourselves that it was good to use our words to help, encourage others, and to be kind.

Dear God,
Thank you that we are all special to you.
Thank you that you made us all different.
Please help us to look for the good in those around us.
Please help us to look beyond our circle of friends
to see those who may be on their own, lonely and needing someone to talk to.

Amen

Half Term

Dear All,

Well we have reached the end of a very long half term! It’s been lovely welcoming your children back into school, and we are delighted with their hard work and progress this half term. It was also good to catch up with many of you for parent consultations.

Next half term the children will be having one additional PE slot on a Wednesday so they will need to come into school on a Wednesday and Thursday prepared for outdoor. PE. They will be doing dance in their PE session on a Tuesday. Please remember that the school will continue to be well ventilated so children need warm clothes ie tracksuits in class and for outdoor play.

Have a wonderful half term break. Keep safe and well.

Remote Learning

A letter has been sent home with children today about using Teams for remote learning in the event of a Covid closure, bubble isolation or lockdown. Please look out for it and keep them safe as it contains instructions on how to log-in.

Hopefully, we will not need to return to remote learning; however, it is better to be prepared. We feel Teams will enable us to have some face to face contact with our classes during any period of remote learning.

Reception, you have not been forgotten. You will receive yours very soon too.
