Blue Class spellings and maths homework w/b 23/9

Edshed is now up and running. All children received log in details on Friday which have been stuck into reading diaries. I also checked this morning that all children have got them. When children log on they will need to use this new log in not their one from last academic year. Therefore, any saved log in details will need to be changed.

Children will still bring a paper copy of new spellings for this week but they are also on Edshed for those who prefer to learn them using the games.

Maths homework will be on the maths shed part of the site from and is set to appear on a Tuesday and completed by the Tuesday. If any children have any difficulty logging on or finding their assignments they should come and see any member of the Blue class team before the homework is due. We are aiming not to give out paper copies of homework in order to try to do our bit to save the amount of paper we use so homework will be set on line.

Kind regards,

Mrs Colin-Stokes

Maths homework and spellings – week beginning 16/9

We are still experiencing issues with Edshed so paper copies of maths homework will be given out tomorrow and a paper copy of the new spellings was given out today. Hopefully these issues will soon be resolved and children will be able to log on to view and complete homework and play the games related to their spellings.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Mrs Colin-Stokes

Blue Class Spellings and Maths Homework

As we said in the post last week, children will receive a paper copy of new spellings and they will also be able to access them on Edshed. Maths homework will also be set on the maths shed area of Edshed. Unfortunately, children will not be able to access the spellings or homework on Edshed this week so they will have their paper copy of spellings (that were given out today) and will receive a paper copy of the maths homework on Tuesday. Apologies for this – we hope this will only be for this week and all will be resolved for next week.

If there are any concerns about the spellings or homework please do get in touch.

Mrs Colin-Stokes

End of first week

It has been lovely welcoming the children in Blue back to school; they seem  keen and ready to learn after the long break.  A warm welcome to Nina and Cameron who have joined our class from other schools.

We appreciate we sent this information at the beginning of the week but we know some of you may not have seen this bulletin .

Staffing:

Class teachers:

Mrs Colin-Stokes: Monday, Tuesday and every other Wednesday

Mrs Benson: Thursday, Friday and every other Wednesday

Mrs Stalmans: Wednesday afternoon teaching computing, music/ art.

TAs:

Mrs Wade

Mrs Richardson

PE days:

Monday and Friday- children need to come to school in their PE kit. As the weather gets colder, children should bring joggers and layers. Children need to take out stud earrings or bring their own tape to cover them.

Homework:

Reading: In Blue Class there is an expectation that children should read each evening. Their reading book should be in school each day and they may choose a book from home or one from our school library. Children should record what they have read in their diaries and parents need to sign their diaries. Whilst many of our children are fluent readers in year 5/6, it is important that parents/ carers hear their child  read aloud at least once a week. This is an ideal opportunity to discuss the books they are reading and ask questions about it to improve their comprehension. Reading diaries will be checked each Wednesday.

Maths: Homework will be set on a Tuesday by Mrs Colin- Stokes and will be on Ed Shed. All children will have a login. Homework needs to be completed by the following Tuesday.

English: English  homeworkwill be set on a Thursday by Mrs Benson but needs to be in by the following Tuesday. This will be work set on paper or in their punctsuation and grammar books that will be given to them.

Spellings: New spellings are set on a Monday on Ed Shed and children also bring home a paper copy. Games and quizzes are on ed shed to help children learn their spellings prior to testing the following Monday.

Teachers and TAs are very happy to help with homework but please come and see us BEFORE the day that it is due so we can help. All homework will start next week.

If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us via email or we are usually available at the end of the day.

Blue Class spellings – set 13/5

New spellings were set today but only for Year 5 to learn this week as Year 6 have more than enough to focus on with their SATs this week. Therefore, next Monday (20th) Year 5 will have a spelling test but Year 6 will not. Year 5 Maths homework will be set, as usual, this week and is due in next Tuesday (21st).

Mrs Colin-Stokes

Blue Class Spellings and Year 5 Maths Homework

New spellings will continue to be set on Mondays and tested the following Monday. Children will continue to have a copy to bring home but they will also continue to be available on Spelling Shed on EdShed. Year 5 Maths homework will continue to be on Maths Shed – children will need to log on to their accounts to access this. This will be set on Thursdays for the following week. The new homework set today revises work completed this week on converting metric measures. If children are unable to access their spellings or homework please do not hesitate to contact me.

See you on Monday Blue Class! Mrs. Colin-Stokes

Spellings w/c 22nd January

We have been successfully using Spelling Shed site for a term now.

We are now migtrating the order of learning of spellings to the Spelling Shed order of learning. This is slightly different from the no-nonsense spelling programme, but the overall coverage of National Curriculum expectations is the same.

The children should still log in to Edshed to see the spellings they have been assigned that week. They will continue to get a printed copy on a Monday, but can always check Edshed if the piece of paper has been misplaced…

Edshed (Maths Shed and Spelling Shed)

We have now started to set maths homework, timetable tasks and spellings on EDSHED for all children in Red and Blue class.

All the children in KS2 have all been given logins and passwords for Edshed. They should be stuck in to their Reading diaries. This will give them access to both Spelling Shed tasks and Maths Shed tasks.

You do NOT need to buy the maths shed and spelling shed apps. The site can be accessed through any web broweser and played on laps tops, ipads, iphones, kindle fire or any other android tablet. Of course you may choose to buy an app if you prefer.

These video links  and links to the Edshed help pages may help if children are struggling to get used to this new resource:

https://support.edshed.com/portal/en/kb/articles/do-i-need-to-buy-the-app-to-play-the-games-at-home

As well as the task we set the children are able to access other fluency games to support their recall of number facts on Maths Shed. Obviously, we would like them to complete the tasks set but they are free to practise as much as they like once these are completed! This is a good use of screen time…

Spellings 9th October

The new spellings for the week for most of Blue class investigate the suffixes “ible” and “able”.

The children have all been given log-ins and passwords for Spelling Shed (Edshed) today. This can be accessed on laptops, tablets or phones. They enjoyed using the games to practise their spellings today.

Some children have a personalised spelling list – these are the ones they have been assigned on Spelling Shed.
