Homework 11th March

Hello Blue class – we hope you have had a productive end of week.

Tasks have been assign for Year 5 on Classroom Secrets Kids again.

This week the English revises Adverbs.

In maths this week we have begun to draw, measure and calculate angles – in the homework you will be practising some of this.

Some of these are videos and slides. They are interactive though and have places for you to input answers to the questions being asked. Please try to complete them all. To get the most out of the learning opportunities, interactive slides and videos should be completed before the games and challenges.

Year 6 have homework which is printed again this week.

Remember – both year groups need to ensure they are learning their spellings and keeping their times tables knowledge fast and fluent.

Homework 11th March

I am really sorry to have missed you all this week. As you may have gathered Mrs Bernasconi and I both have covid even though we haven’t seen each other, so keep testing if you’re feeling at all poorly. However, we know you’re in great hands with Mrs Wade and Mrs Colin- Stokes and we are all in constant touch with each other.

Year 5/6 Topic homework

I am particularly sorry to have missed continuing with our topic -The Titanic- which I know you are all really excited about. Did you spot I had left lots of books out for you? For part of your homework, I would like you to do some research about 1912 – the year the Titanic sunk.  Your work should be  presented on a piece of A4 paper that can be stuck in your book (don’t write on the back of a sheet as it makes sticking it in your book tricky). Your information may be presented in a fact file or a poster format . You can find out what you like: who was king at the time; fashion; transport; inventions; music etc You can use the computer to create your work. However do not cut and paste written information or write information that you don’t understand; I would like to see it in your own words! If you’re struggling to print, then e-mail it to me as an attachment. Remember I don’t want to know about the Titanic as we’re learning about this in class but background to the period will really help you. I will give you two weeks to complete this homework; it will need to be in  on Wednesday 23rd March.

Year 6 maths

Well done to the majority of you who had a go at the long division for homework. Remember I asked you to ask on Monday if you were stuck so someone could help you before it needed to be in on Wednesday.

This week you have been given a half arithmetic paper for homework. You should now be able to do everything on the paper but, of course, we all forget things so if if you’re struggling with any of the questions, circle it and we can go over it together. This should take less than 20 minutes as a whole paper should take you 30 minutes. Strive for accuracy!

Year 6 English

You have been given  10 PAG questions which are set out in the style of SATs . Circle any you are unsure of. Don’t lose precious marks by forgetting to put capital letters or full stops or by writing your comma incorrectly!

Year 5

Mrs Bernasconi is setting your  maths and English homework on line.

I am really looking forward to seeing you all next week as long as my lateral flow is negative.

Have a good weekend.

Mrs Benson

Homework

Year 5 have homework set on Classroom Secrets Kids again this week. There is maths and English.

The maths is in two parts – units of measurement.

The English is also in two parts. This focuses on modal verbs.

As usual, please try to at least start it over the weekend so that you can ask for help BEFORE it is due to be completed.

Year 6 – Mrs Benson has given you printed work / pages from your SATs revision  books.

Year 6 Homework Blue

Year 6

Maths ( year 6)

This morning, in booster, the children learnt how to do long division. They have brought home some questions. They should start  with exercise B and can continue to exercise C if they wish to become really proficient. May I suggest they try some before Monday whilst it is still fresh in their mind, and  so they can ask for help  if they’re stuck. Long division always carry two marks and there are at least two in the arithmetic paper. The children did the 2019 SATs arithmetic test this morning and the majority attempted long division even though they had only learnt it this morning – well done year 6!

English comprehension ( year 6)

I have sent home part of a comprehension paper this morning. Most children ( apart from a few who are given an extra 5 minutes) have 20 minutes to complete the paper; this involves reading the text and answering the questions. For many of the children, the time constraint is what they find most difficult. I have suggested they work for 20 minutes and then draw a line if they haven’t finished. They should go onto complete the rest of the paper. In the past, we have found practising lots of comprehensions under timed conditions helps improve their speed.

Half term

We have come to the end of a busy half term. The children have all worked hard, and we are pleased with the progress they are making.

Shropshire Bookfest has really stimulated our children to read for pleasure, and there is a buzz of excitement as the children discuss and recommend books to each other . Most of the children are now reading their  third or fourth book. Congratulations to Evan who has read all six books. The book spines are how many we have read!

Swimming lessons have been a great success this term. A big thank you to Carla Lane who has been supporting us; her group loved the survival skills  and swimming in their clothes. Congratulations to all our year 6 who can now swim 25 metres.

Voting took place on Thursday to select our class representatives for the school council – well done to Evan and Rosie. Our new digital leaders: Nina, Maisie, Poppy N, Eden Poppy B, Charlotte and Lucas are helping organise our equipment and support staff.

We wish you all a happy half term holiday and hope Storm Eunice doesn’t spoil your plans.

Science – Year 5 and 6

Year 5 and 6 have been learning about Forces this half term.

On Tuesday, they investigated how gears, levers and pulleys  allow a smaller force to have a greater effect. It was a very “hands on” session which the children approached with great enthusiasm. They showed they could apply their maths when considering gear ratios too. The children took photographs and created their own Pic-collage records of their learning.

We clearly have many future engineers and scientists at Claverley!

Maths

In maths this week we will continue to look at converting units of measure.

We begin the week focusing on problems solving with metric units of measure (length, mass and capacity.

We will then move on to Imperial units of measure

WhiteRose Converting measure videos year 5

White Rose units of measure videos Year 6

Oak Academy Converting units of measure

English

We are continuing to look at biographies. We will be writing a biography of Martin Luther King.

This Oak academy would be a good alternative if you are unable to come to school but well enough to learn at home. Biography lessons

Science

Our Forces topic continues this week with a practical look at Gears, Levers and pullies.

This Oak academy would be a good alternative if you are unable to come to school but well enough to learn at home: Gears levers and pullies

Computing and PSHE

These topics are linked this week.

We have been learning to use Forms on Office 365. We will learning more about communicating safely and respectfully online. We will then use Forms to create quizzes to rehearse and test each others knowledge and understanding.

Geography- our topic this half term is Global Trade

Oak Academy Globalisation

None of the Oak Academy units are exactly as we will be teaching in class but they do provide the children with some teaching in the videos and allow them to cover the same objectives as the children in school. They also do not require a printer and do not use up your data…
