Revise all of your phase 3 sound cards.
Watch Mr Thorne does phonics for your focus sound for today. In school we are focusing on recognising digraphs and trigraphs when reading and spelling so we are working through all of the phase three sounds again.
Today we are going to look at reading two-syllable words. Write a two syllable compound word down for your child to see with a / in between the two syllables e.g car/park. Segment and blend the first syllable c-ar car. Then the second p-ar-k park. Then say them both together, car park. Ask your child to repeat what you just did and then try with other words:
farm/yard
sun/set
bin/bag
back/pack
Year 1
Revise all of your phase 5 sound cards.
Watch Mr Thorne does phonics for your focus sound for today. In school we are focusing on recognising digraphs and trigraphs when reading and spelling so we are working through all of the phase three sounds again.
Today we are going to look at adding the suffixes ‘ing’, ‘ed’, ‘er’ ‘en’ and ‘est’ to words ending in a single consonant.
Tell your child that all of these words end in a single consonant and that the word needs to be changed before we can add the suffix. Tell them the word and ask them to write it down, then tell them what we are changing the word into e.g stop to stopped. Can they think of how we can change the word? If not, show them an example and then see if they can pick up the pattern.
stop (ing)
mad (er)
skip (ed)
run (ing)
hop (er)
nod (ed)
pad (ing)
hid (en)
hot (est)
rip (ed)

This week we are looking at fairy tales.
For today’s activity I would like children to come up with an alternative ending for Little Red Riding Hood. Read the story together but stop when Little Red Riding Hood works out that the wolf is in her Grandmother’s bed.
They can either write down their ending or act it out using toys/puppets.
Year 1
This week we are going to be writing our own story based on a fairy tale. We are going to build up to writing our story throughout the week so that children have a chance to develop their ideas. Read different fairy tales together and discuss who the characters are, where the stories are set and the main plot.
For today’s activity I would like you to think about what is going to happen in the beginning, middle and end of your story. You don’t need to write the story just some ideas of what you are going to include.

We are continuing with capacity today. Today we are going to be estimating how many spoonfuls/cupfuls we think it will take to fill different containers. Depending on the containers you have you may want to use cups instead of spoons.
Record your findings in a table to show what the container is, how many spoons/cups you estimate and then the actual number of spoons/cups.
You could extend the learning by talking about halves e.g If it takes 10 cups to fill the saucepan how many will it take to fill it half full?
Year 1
We are looking at counting coins today. Start by putting a selection 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p in front of your child. Ask them to select a few different coins and find the total amount. Can children use their knowledge of counting in multiples of 2s, 5s and 10s to help them?
Go through the presentation for today looking at lesson 3.
