Update

Dear All,

What another extraordinary week. I am attaching a letter to keep you in the loop with where we are up to. I really do hope that I will be able to clarify our position on opening for wider groups early next week. I thought that some of you might like to see the government guidance and the strict guidelines that we are working to.

Best wishes
Jo Derrer

Literacy

For today’s activity we are going to be writing pirate poems using the sentence starter ‘If I were a pirate…’

To start with you might want to think of a few things that pirates like to do, things they wear and things you associate with pirates. This will help you when you come to write your poem.

Here is my poem to get you started:

If I were a pirate I’d wear a black eye patch.

I’d have a pet parrot.

I’d sail the sea.

I’d hunt for treasure.

I’d say ahoy!

Year 1s try and include an exclamation mark in your work.

Maths

Reception

Using a part whole model, place items in one of the parts circles.

Then ask your child to match your number in the second part circle. Ash them ‘What’s the double?’ Encourage them to respond by saying ‘Double x is xx’ then see if they can write the number in the whole circle at the top.

This week is all about pirates. You could have a look at this book, Jake’s First Day or read any book you have at home about pirates.

For today’s activity I would like you to create pirate descriptions. You could choose a character from Jake’s First Day or your own book. Think about what they look like, their personality and where they live.

Maths

Reception

This week we are looking at doubling. Make sure your child knows that doubling means twice as many. Whenever they are working with doubles encourage to say it e.g double 2 is 4.

Start by watching numberblocks. For today’s activity build a tower or thread beads onto a string. Ask your child to build the double e.g if your tower is 4 cubes tall they need to build theirs 8 bricks tall. Each time they make a double encourage them to say the sentence e.g double 4 is 8.

Maths for 11.5.20

Our maths this week involves a lot of new learning so please don’t panic if you find it challenging. If you struggle with a question, have a look at the answer, see if you can understand how the answer was reached and then cover up the answer and have a go at the question yourself. The worksheets move on quite quickly so don’t worry if you can’t complete all the questions, just have your best go!
