After the success of our Rock Star day last week I thought I would remind you of a couple of useful websites that can support your child’s maths learning.

Numbots

Numbots is a fantastic website that will guide your children through some basic maths skills. It will help your child to develop their fluency with key skills that will take them throughout school.

It will be useful for both our reception and year 1 children as you are able to progress onto increasing levels of difficulty. Children may initially need to use physical resources to help them work out an answer but should be encouraged to count on and back where appropriate.

Every child has an account and should have login details at home, I do have a record of these details though so please let me know if you need a reminder.

Times Table Rock Stars

Times Table Rock Stars will help your child to learn their times table facts- both multiplication and division.

In Year 1 we teach the children to count in multiples of 2, 5 and 10. We are also just starting to look at arrays, using key vocabulary that leads onto times table facts. For example, “I have 2 rows of 10. 2 lots of 10 is 20”. We are also looking at sharing, which again, has the key vocabulary needed for division facts. For example, “I have 12 altogether. I can share 12 equally into 2 groups. 12 divided by 2 is 6”.

As a result of this, I have set the 2, 5 and 10 times tables for our Year 1 children on the Times Table Rock Stars website. The format of the game can be tricky for our Year 1 children as the vocabulary is still new and at this stage they may need to use physical resources to help them work out an answer. Using the game regularly will help to build up their understanding and speed.
