Happy Birthday Frankie

Happy Birthday Frankie, we hope you have a wonderful day celebrating with your family.

From all of your friends in Green Class

Purple Mash

As the weeks pass, we know lots of you are finding home learning harder. It is also  more difficult for us to be sure we are providing the right level of work for you when it is so long since we have seen many of you. We have been reviewing the different technological approaches to home learning used by schools around the county and different parts of the country. We have also listened to feedback from the families within our own school community. Access to devices, internet connection and printers varies from family to family and school to school; however, we would like to increase the opportunities for our Claverley children to interact with their school community.

Purple mash should provide a way for the children to communicate and share photos, voice messages and videos safely. Individual usernames and passwords have been sent out. It will continue to be useful in the new school year even if (as we hope) we are all together in school once more.

I have made a short screen-cast video to provide a short introduction to using Purple Mash. Enjoy!

Story Time

Good Morning Green Class!

It has been wonderful to see so many of you in school this week and we have had lots of fun in our class garden tidying up and planting new flowers.

I hope all of our home learners have enjoyed this week’s activities. It’s been lovely to see photos of the work that you have been doing and I am very proud of the progress you have all been making, keep up the good work! Remember you can always email me or request a phone call if there is anything you would like to discuss with me.

I have recorded a story for you all, The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Miss Pullinger

Computing skills without a computer

Problem solving and Computational Thinking

Barefoot Computing has some lovely activities including dance moves, hand jives, pizza making, story sequencing and code breaking which will build the thinking skills behind the computing curriculum. There are a range of activities for 4 to 11 year olds.

Learning together activities

Theses are fun and creative activities, to help you guide your child through fundamental parts of the computing curriculum without the need for screen time. They include everything you need to get started with activity sheets and accompanying materials.

To All our Home Learners

Hi to all our home learning children (some of you might need your parents to read this to you!),

I just wanted to update you on this week and say that we haven’t forgotten you! As part of the government guidance, some children have come back to school. We have had to make lots of plans ready including making sure that there is enough space between the tables and giving everyone their own resources. We have had to use a strict ‘keep left’ policy for the corridors too.

So, I think we have all experienced lots of different emotions this week. I expect you have had lots of different feelings while working and being at home too. We often talk about our feelings in school so I wonder if you might want to use this video and tell someone at home how you are feeling at home.

I am feeling happy that we have have a good week in school and have seen a few of our children. I am also a bit sad that we haven’t started the second part of the summer term seeing all of you. We know that keeping safe is the most important thing we can all do and that this plan is best for now. Keep going with your home learning!

I have also seen this song (Just Sing!) which some of you might like to learn too!

A prayer to share

Dear God,

Thank you for all the feelings we have and that it is good to talk to others about them.

It is fine to feel sad or scared sometimes

And it’s great to feel happy when we can.

Please help us control our bad feelings and not let them take over us.

Amen

Year 1

Thank you Year 1 for two fabulous days with you this week. I have been really impressed by your hard work and enthusiasm. I am really looking forward to seeing you next week. Best Wishes, Miss Pinches

Phonics

Revise all of the flashcards and then use the assessment from Monday to determine which sound you are going to focus on today.

You can then either go back and re-watch one of the online Letters and Sounds videos or use Mr Thorne does phonics.

Choose three words that contain the focus sound and say them one at a time to your child, get them to segment the word and record each sound. Go through the word together to check they got it right.

Year 1- Have a go at Cheeky Chimps

Reception- Have a go at Space Race

Literacy

We are continuing with our Pippety Skycap story so re-read the story and then have a go at the activities below:

Today we are going to be building a bridge for toy cars to drive over. The bridge could be built out of blocks, lego, junk modelling or anything you fancy. Children will need to think about the length, height and width they want their bridge to be. You could then have a race and see who’s car will travel the furthest when pushed from the bridge. Can they think of a way to measure who’s car went the furthest?

I have attached a further optional challenge from the Year 1 White Rose materials if your child is confident. Use the video link for lesson 3.

Today we are continuing to look at partitioning.

Start by having a go at Base Ten Bingo. Select tens and ones and then begin with the 3×3 grid.

You can go through day 3 of the presentation but again this is optional and the activity will still work without doing this.

Then select the appropriate level of challenge from the 3 worksheets. You could also have a go at the challenges at the end.

Whilst out and about see if you can find the different plants on this scavenger hunt. Can you identify any plants that aren’t on the list?

Hello Year 1

Just a quick message to let you know that I am really looking forward to teaching you on Monday. Miss Pullinger and I have planned some brilliant lessons so I am excited to help you with your learning and for us to have lots of fun together. I have arranged the furniture so that everyone has their own table, tray and pencil pot but other than removing a few tables to create more space, I have ensured that the room still looks familiar and welcoming. If any parents would like to speak to me, feel free to phone me at school from Monday between 7:30am and 9am or after 3:15pm. Alternatively, you are welcome to send me an e-mail. Best Wishes, Miss Pinches

Keeping safe Online

During these strange times many of us are spending even more time online than usual. It has been incredibly useful and meant that we can still “see” loved ones who don’t live with us, work from home, learn from home and even have family quizz nights from home. (What would we have done if this had Lockdown had happened in the 1980’s or 1990’s?) However, we still need to be mindful of safety – it is easy for us to drop our guard when we depend so much on technology.

These resources are intended to support families and are not intended for children to access alone:

Wider opening of the school on Monday 1st June

The staff and governors have worked hard to ensure the preparations for the wider reopening of the school can begin in a phased approach on Monday. There is a lot of information on this page which I am hoping you will find useful.
Monday 1st June and Tuesday 2nd June
School open for: Key Worker children, Year 6 at 8.45am and Year 1 at 9.00am.
Wednesday 3rd June and Thursday 4th June
School open for: Key Worker children, Year 6 at 8.45am and Reception children at 9.15am.

Please note that as there is strict guidance on the number of the bubbles, you must inform the school by 3pm on the Wednesday of the previous week if you are planning on sending your child back to school.

Please don’t forget to put sun cream on your child before they come to school and provide a hat – thank you.

I hope you have had a chance to look at some of the information sent out yesterday too!

We are looking forward to seeing you.
