Reception
Revise all of your phase 3 flash cards and then keep working through the digraphs and trigraphs focusing on the ones that your child finds tricky to remember. Link to Mr Thorne does phonics.
Give your child two pieces of paper and ask them to write yes on one and no on the other. Then give them these yes/no question one at a time, they have to hold up either the yes card or the no card depending on what they think the answer is. This is helping with their segmenting and blending skills as well as their comprehension of what they are reading.

Year 1
Revise all of your phase 5 flash cards and then keep working through the sounds that your child finds tricky to remember. Link to Mr Thorne does phonics.
For today’s activity we are looking at adding the suffixes ing, er, est, y and ed to words ending in ‘e’.
Tell your child that all of these words end in e and that the word needs to be changed before we can add the suffix. Tell them the word and ask them to write it down, then tell them what we are changing the word into e.g like to liked. Can they think of how we can change the word? If not, show them an example and then see if they can pick up the pattern:
like (ed)
ride (er)
tame (est)
bone (y)
bake (ing)
hike (ing)
fine (est)
wave (ed)
rule (er)
rude (est)
Literacy
This week we are going to be using the book ‘The Selfish Crocodile’.
If you haven’t got the book at home you could use the powerpoint of the story below or watch this video of the story being read.
The-Selfish-Crocodile-story
Use these questions to develop your child’s comprehension of the story.
You could cut them out and put them into a bag before asking your child to choose one. Year 1 children can read the sentences themselves before having a go at answering them, they could record their answers in full sentences.
Reception children could pull a question out of a bag but will need the questions reading to them. They can then verbally give you their answers as this will develop their communication and language skills.

Reception
This week we will be following the White Rose materials for Reception.
This week’s activities are based on the story ‘Zog’, although you don’t need the story to complete the activities I have attached links to a video of the story being read and to the animated story on the BBC.
Below are the activities for today and here is the link for the support video.
Day-1-Zog
Year 1
This week we are looking at time. We will begin by looking at before and after.
Discuss the definition of the words: before, after, first, next, then.
You could then have a look at the presentation for this week- lesson 1 (but you don’t have to).

For our activity today we are going to look at activities that we do before, during and after school. Ask your child to think of at least 3 things for each group, they could draw a picture or write a sentence to represent their ideas.
Challenge
Our challenge today is Science based. We are going to be looking at how bees help us and what we can do to help the bees.
Start by looking at a flower and pointing out the pollen, explain that bee’s collect the pollen and take it to other plants. There is an experiment that you may want to try to show how they do this but this is an optional extra!

You could then design a poster giving some information on what we can do to help our bees.
