English 23.4.20 and 24.4.20

Roald Dahl brings his characters to life with vivid descriptions using lots interesting adjectives and expanded noun phrases.

Now it is your turn to write. Choose a character from Fantastic Mr Fox. Write a really good quality description.

Remember we need to know what they look like, how they behave, maybe even how they smell or sound. Your reader needs to have a really clear picture of them their head when they have read your description.

These sheets have some useful adjectives that you might like to use:Description-writing-frames-for characters-from-Fantastic-Mr-Fox-

Think about how you write your sentences. You should aim to use:

If we were doing this together in class, we would spend time gathering our ideas.

So, plan some adjectives, phrases, sentences. How could you use all the things in the list above to make your writing wonderful? Rehearse them aloud. Writers draft their ideas. If you have time you can always choose another character to practise your descriptive writing about.

Reading w/c 20.4.20

I hope you are continuing to be as enthusiastic about reading as you were when we were doing our Claverley Book Fest. Keep reading to yourself for pleasure, sharing books with your family and listening to stories.

We have Fantastic Mr Fox to focus us this week, I have been trying to upload some videos of it being read, so that you can see the text as well as listen to the story if you don’t have a copy at home. I’ll keep trying….

This text from Twinkl links to our History topic ( the Stone Age). The online version is accessible to all reading levels as it is read out. This should enable both year 3 and 4 to focus on the questions being asked.

Twinkl home learning hub  go to the Age 7-9. The Book starts on Monday. The guided reading is at the bottom of the day’s timetable. I have uploaded copy of the text here:

Art

Since our science topic this half term is Plants, I thought we might start by looking carefully at some flowering plants and drawing them.

These lovely flowers were given to me on Mother’s Day:

You could use pencils, or paints; whatever you have at home. You might have some other flowers such as tulips at home. Look carefully at the flowers. We will be learning more about the parts of the flower.

The present perfect is a verb form which lots of people take a little while to understand even though we use it naturally. We have have a few lessons together about this, but it continues to be important in year 5 and 6, so it is worth practising.

Welcome back to our home learning

Hello Red class! I hope you have enjoyed Easter with your families, have had plenty of Easter eggs and have been able to enjoy the sunshine.

I have been thinking lots about your home learning whilst I have been munching on chocolate over Easter.

Unfortunately, my walks with my dog will have to be longer and faster to use up all those extra calories. He is quite happy about that.

As well as Maths and English, we will be finding out about Plants for science and some history of life in the UK long, long ago (Stone Age to Iron Age ) for our topic. Hopefully, some of you will have some seeds and plants you can grow and observe at home. Perhaps you could share some photographs to support each other in your learning.
