Science w/c 15.6.20

This week for Science we are looking at how we see things around us. I have attached a link to a couple of videos from Espresso that you can watch and then have a go at the experiment below.

Espresso videos

Can you see in the dark?
Make a dark box and challenge your friend to see in the dark. What you need.

A shoebox or a box with a lid
Coloured pencils or pens Tin foil
ScissorsWhat you need to do.

Make a very small hole in the side of the box with the scissors.
Take a coloured pencil and draw 2 or 3 small shapes on the inside of the box.
Put the lid on firmly. Now give the box to your partner, tell them to look through the hole in the side of the box.
Can they tell you which shapes you have drawn?
Try again using small pieces of tin foil – is this easier to see?Result

Was it easy to see in the dark box? What would happen if you cut another hole in the box?Write about the experiment and draw some diagrams.

Computing skills without a computer

Problem solving and Computational Thinking

Barefoot Computing has some lovely activities including dance moves, hand jives, pizza making, story sequencing and code breaking which will build the thinking skills behind the computing curriculum. There are a range of activities for 4 to 11 year olds.

Learning together activities

Theses are fun and creative activities, to help you guide your child through fundamental parts of the computing curriculum without the need for screen time. They include everything you need to get started with activity sheets and accompanying materials.

There also Mini Missions to complete

Red and Blue Computing

Programming with Scratch

These resources are suitable for both Red and Blue class. They are from the people at Amazing ICT. They support the teachers in Shropshire and Telford.

Home Teaching – Key Stage 2

The Home Teaching resources on the first page have lots of projects and resources to support you as you build your skills. They have online support provided, but you must have a grown up with you if you use this part. ( You can always email me for support instead if that isn’t possible!) .

There are two “pathways” to choose. You might want to start on pathway 2 if you can remember the scratch programming you have done with me in school or you remember finding it easy and interesting. You can choose – those of you in Year 6 have done quite a bit of scratch programming with me in the past, but then Year 4 and 5 did really well with this last year too and Year 3 also made a great start this year.

Scratch is free and can now run on iPads as well as on windows laptops.

I’d love to see your projects. If you complete them and save them on scratch.mit.edu you can send me a link.

Hi Red Class! I hope you have all had a good week with your home learning. I have uploaded all of the home learning tasks for next week beginning 8th June. The activities for French and Art are added extras in case you would like to do something a little bit different. The tasks for Science and Topic are quite lengthy if you want to split them up and do them on different days it is up to you. Please remember to keep reading books from home and practise your times tables using Times Tables Rock Stars. Some of the key worker children who have been in school have given us some good feedback on Numbots if you would like to have a go at this as well. The log in details are the same as your Times Tables Rock Stars.

Hope you all have a good week!

Year 4 Maths w/c 8.6.20

This week we have some learning about decimals again. The learning in the two weeks before Easter (the first two weeks in which we had to swap to Home Learning) focused on the same area. However, it is an important foundation for learning in year 5, so we have the same objectives using different worksheets. The feedback on the Classroom Secrets materials which both year 3 and 4 used a week or two ago was very positive.

English w/c 8th June

This week for English we would like you to look at The King of The Fishes by Jo Pearce. It is a new resource we have looked at which builds up to a structured piece of writing and we have broken the activities down by day. The talk for writing approach is how we structure our lessons in school. As usual feedback is always useful.

Monday

We would like you to look at and complete the activities from the beginning of the pack up to the bottom of page 10 looking at reading the story and understanding vocabulary.

Tuesday

Re read the story and then complete the spelling and grammar activities from page 11 up to the bottom of page 13

Wednesday

Complete the activities from page 14 up to the bottom of page 19, planning and beginning to write the first section of your own story.

Thursday

Complete the second and third sections of your story using the guidance from page 20 up to where it says ‘fifth section’ on page 21.

Friday

Complete the fifth and final sections of your story using the guidance from pages 21 and 22.

If you would like to create your own mini book on paper there are instructions at the end of the pack for you to follow to do this.

This is a word document of the instructions above for you to print out if you want to do this:
