This page gives information about SEND provision at Claverley Primary School and this is set out in detail in the document below.
We are an inclusive school and have supported children in many different ways, enabling them to meet their full potential. We encourage pupils to achieve their potential through adult support, target setting with the children and intervention groups.
How do we identify children who need support?
Definition from Shropshire’s Local Offer
‘If a child or young person has significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age, or has a disability that makes it difficult for them to access the educational provision (including early years education) provided for other children of the same age, they may have a special educational need (SEN). Having a disability doesn’t necessarily mean that a child will have a special educational need.’
At Claverley, we use a range of strategies for identifying pupils who might require some extra support and ensuring their needs are met:
- Pupils working below year group expectations with gaps in learning widening
- Assessment of work produced
- Continue to need support over and above classroom teaching/ unable to access the curriculum without support
- Conversations between teacher/TA
- Obtain views of parents
- Outside agencies referrals
- Displays a lack of focus
- Historical data
- Slow processing skills/ needing more time
- Change in behaviour
- Withdrawn
- Frustrated
- Anxious
- Disruptive
- Shouting out
- Not mixing with peers
- Work avoidance (sharpening pencils/regular toilet visits)
Where concerns are raised that a child may be not making expected progress in their learning, schools are required to intervene early to implement appropriate and effective support to overcome the barriers to learning. We are committed to the full inclusion of all children in school life. Click Medical Arrangements for more details.
We are also aware that there may be Social and Emotional Mental Health needs that families need support with and that our whole school needs to be one which values well-being and openness about mental health. Miss Pinches is the Senior Mental Health Lead and you can read our policy here: Mental Health Policy
As with any other area of school life, if you have a query or concern about the provision your child is receiving, please talk to your class teacher or the SENCo, Mrs. Harper-Jones. Should you wish to contact her, please call 01746 710636, or alternatively email admin@claverley.shropshire.sch.uk
