Our vision
Our vision at Claverley C of E primary is ‘to encourage one another and build each other up’ (1 Thessalonians 5:11) so that we are each empowered to make the most of the lives we have been gifted by God – to live out our BEST lives.
Our mission to fulfil our vision and enable all to flourish through being our BEST.
Believe that we can change things for the better (Hope)
rEspect our environment and each other (Dignity)
Support our friends and community (Community)
Take every opportunity to learn (Wisdom)
Our motto: ‘encourage one another and build each other up’ (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
Intent
Through our inclusive ethos, our aim is to make PSHE a fundamental part of our whole school curriculum where we strive to encourage self-confident, resilient and positive learners. From a secure foundation of British values and beliefs, we support pupils in caring for themselves and having a caring attitude towards others mentally, physically and emotionally. PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) Education and RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) is taught on a weekly basis in class and provides children with lots of opportunity to share, discuss and reflect. To support the delivery of our PSHE/RSE Curriculum we follow ‘Kapow’. This helps to ensure that we offer a progressive curriculum and this is enhanced with visitors into school and raising awareness of key issues/courses through theme days. Our intent is to equip pupils with the knowledge and strategies on how to live healthy, live safely and responsibly to manage life’s challenges whilst making the most of the opportunities as they become responsible citizens.
As a part of your child’s educational experience at Claverley CE Primary, we aim to promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive taught programme of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education that gives children and young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes, and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive, and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future.
The Department for Education announced changes to relationships and sex education following nationwide consultation and all schools are required to comply with the updated requirements.
The statutory guidance can be found at
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1019542/Relationships_Education__Relationships_and_Sex_Education__RSE__and_Health_Education.pdf
Where schools provide sex education at key stages 1 and 2, parents will have the right to withdraw their child from sex education but not from statutory Relationships Education, Health Education or what is taught in the Science National curriculum.
Implementation
We fulfil our intent through focussed, weekly lessons based on exploration and discussion. These are enriched discreetly across the school day. This maximises pupils opportunities to understand and respect who they are, whilst embracing the diverse society in which we live.
The Kapow Primary scheme offers a whole school approach which consists of the areas of learning:
- Family and relationships
- Health and wellbeing
- Safety and the changing body
- Citizenship and Economic well being
- Living in the Wilder World
Each area is revisited every year to allow children to build on prior learning and the lessons provide a progressive programme. Sex education has been included in line with the DfE recommendations and is covered in Year 6 of the scheme. Kapow Primary supports the requirements of the Equality Act through direct teaching, for example learning about different families, the negative effect of stereotypes and celebrating differences, in addition to the inclusion of diverse teaching resources throughout the lessons.
Impact
Children at Claverley CE Primary will foster well-being and develop resilience and character to be happy, successful and productive and confident citizens. Pupils will have met the objectives set out within the Relationships and Health Education statutory guidance and will be able to utilise their learning within their daily lives, from dealing with friendship issues to making healthy choices and knowing where and one to get help when needed. Opportunities to learn about, demonstrate and apply Democratic Rights and Responsibilities, British Values, Tolerance, Mutual Respect and the Rule of Law and Liberty allow pupils to feel confident to voice their own opinions, as well as respect and value the thoughts and ideas of others. Children understand and appreciate what it means to be a Global citizen in a diverse world.
